Brothers and sisters! If you haven’t by now, you will soon receive the ballot sent to you by officials from the “emergency” dictatorship now running this city. This den of thieves and financial thugs will be asking you to vote to cut your own throat in exchange for empty promises and emptier wallets, courtesy of the bosses, bankers and political barbarians of the Republican and Democratic parties.

As we go to press, escalating protests against the wave of mass water shutoffs have resulted in a 15-day moratorium on shutoffs, beginning on July 21. Rumors also abound that control of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department will be taken out of the hands of appointed dictator Kevyn Orr and transferred back to the city. Check future issues of the Worker-Communist for the latest updates.

DETROIT, July 7 — In the year since the city of Detroit was forced into bankruptcy by the exploiting and oppressing classes, and placed under the control of “Emergency Manager” dictator Kevyn Orr by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, poor and working people have been under relentless attack in the name of “fiscal responsibility.”

The announcement of an upcoming “International Conference on Men’s Issues,” sponsored by the woman-hating A Voice For Men website, has rightly sparked anger and outrage from supporters of women’s rights and advocates for the survivors of rape, assault and domestic violence. This situation is only made more appalling by the fact that it comes a month after “men’s rights activist” Elliot Rodger shot and stabbed six people, and injured 13 more, in Isla Vista, Calif., as “retribution” against women who ignored his advances — a massacre that saw many of Rodger’s “bros” not only defend his rampage, but blame women for it happening!
